Lucy’s Last – Jenna
New band’s debut song. Don’t really know much about them but the song sounds rather decent and I expect it’s not just a one off release. So, let’s see what happens next and hopefully something more will appear on their M3P entry in the meantime.
Lyndsay & LuLu – Letter 25
A little birdy told me that this is Lyndsay Pace’s collaboration with Jon Lukas Woodenman and LuLu Agius, but there was no press release along with this release and the planned promotional video is not out just. So, let’s see what happens next and if it’s not through the M3P perhaps the video will shed some more light on this collaboration.
Mutt Ley – Mean Summer
Originally released back in 2006 and featured in the 41st podcast in this series, this song has been released just in time ahead of summer 2014. Hopefully this time it will attract a little more attention than last time.
Krokus – Long Stick
Taken from their newly released live album Long Stick Goes Boom Live from Da House of Rust, this track is simply one of many others that capture the indomitable sound of this veteran metal band. Marc Storace’s voice sounds better than ever and it’s a pleasure to be able to open this week’s podcast with this live recording by Krokus.
In The Name Of – Flesh Will Suffice
No strangers to the MMI podcast, the hardcore metal band from Malta appear here to mark the relatively recent release (22 March 2014 on Bandcamp) of their EP Glutton Kings. They remain a force to be reckoned with on the local scene and if they keep it up this way, given their contacts, I see no reason for them not to pick up even more fans on the international circuit.
Rising Sunset – The Battle of Thermopylae
Taken from their forthcoming album Decretum, this track seems this band move into more than a decade of activity on the local metal scene. This will be their third album and I’m sure you’ll hear another track from it on this series of podcasts when it comes out.
Jogelle – The Struggle
Maltese-born Johanna Gauci Loporto is a US-based singer recording as Jogelle (a name derived from her initials, or so it seems) who was brought to my attention by Mario Axiaq. She has recorded a number of songs and seems to be exploring the best style for her voice. I like what she has produced so far so much that I’ve chosen to open this week’s podcast with this song.
Melchior Sultana – Peacefully
This Maltese musician continues to be one of the most underrated artists of his generation. Perhaps he prefers it that way. The only time I met him in person, about 7 years ago, he was a very quiet and unassuming individual. That certainly comes across in his music and I probably like it more for this reason.
Fabricka – Break It Down (Nostalgia)
This is one of those mystery acts from Malta that appear online from time to time. I came across this one on Soundcloud as was instantly mesmerized by what I heard. There’s a Facebook page for Fabricka too, but that doesn’t shed any further light on this project or whoever is behind it. I’d really like to know more!
