The results from this 2014 MMI Listeners’ Picks Poll will be available during a special podcast in the series, which will be released on Saturday 24 October 2015.

The 2015 edition will hopefully be available at the customary time this year.

Both editions of the MMI Listeners’ Picks poll are brought to you by the web team at QUE Design Studio. Their support is greatly appreciated.

The MMI 2014 Listener’s Picks Poll 2014 was not published towards the end of last year. This was mainly due to a technical issue but also because this whole thing runs on a shoestring budget supported by just a couple of people. Anyway, the saying “better late than never” fits really well here.

  • What if?

What if I started blogging regularly again?

This thought has been on my mind quite a bit over the past few days.  Firstly I am rather impressed by the blog at the new QUE Design Studio website. And secondly old-timer Antonio Olivari has (apparently) taken to blogging fairly regularly again.

What if the whole microblogging thing on Twitter, the photoblogging thing on Instagram, and the nonsense that is Facebook were all just fads?

What if blogging is really where it’s at?

From time to time Dominic Galea’s Heritage Records releases a new CD album inspired by Maltese literature. A relatively long string of such project have appeared over the past decade or so. The latest in this series is called Moħġaġa (which is the Maltese word for puzzle) and features contemporary poetry from the past five decades. This particular track is from a poem by Victor Fenech, whom I’ve always considered as on of three or four quasi-beat poets from Malta to emerge in the 1960s.

It always good to see Maltese bands giving their recordings the largest exposure possible. One tactic that several bands have developed in recent years is to release many tracks from the same album as singles. Sometimes, however, this can make old codgers like me lose track of what’s actually going on. Perhaps this is mostly because I crave new music from people I know can produce it relatively easily.

    Mind’s Eye DubSay Something
What’s a summer without the sounds of Mind’s Eye Dub? David Magro never disappoints! This clearly a nod to the world’s most popular Jamaican singer-songwriter, but there’s more to it than that. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll like it, even if you’re not particularly keen on dub or reggae.

    Lyndsay PaceSick Day

    John GaleaI Am a Survivor

    DanjeliQabbad Ħa Jfuħ
How could I not grab the opportunity to include something new by one of my favourite Maltese musicians of all time. I’ve still to hear a track by Danjeli I totally dislike, and this one is certainly rather special. If for no other reason for the use of the Maltese language accompanied by the sort of electronic soundscape that he has now mastered over the years.

    GreshaDreamers
Shawn Grech is a singer who I feel like I’ve heard before and possibly included in this series of podcast. I’m not 100% sure. However, I’m pretty certain that this is the first time that I’ve ever included anything from him as Gresha. It’s the sort of song where I get the feeling that I’d like it just as much without the vocal track.
