God Save the Queen

Show notes for the 431st Mużika Mod Ieħor podcast featuring music by performers from or in Malta:

I managed to catch this new power trio playing an opening set before the Don Ross concert at City Theatre in Valletta earlier this month and I must say that I was very impressed by their slick sound. They are about to release their debut album entitled Cuckoo Island at the Marsa Sports Club on 11 December 2015. This track is not too representative of the other tracks I’ve heard them play but it certainly gives you a glimpse of the fresh sound they’re unleashing onto the Malta music scene. Watch out for this guys…they’re going places.

RelikcPush
Second track released to promote the EP It’s Not Misspelt finds this band in top form. It provides a formidable opening track for this week podcast. I’m not sure whether they’re also planning a promotional video to go with it. If they do, this text will eventually be replaced by that video.

Alex Taylor-Helleur plays trumpet on the nosnow/noalps track featured earlier in this week’s podcast. However he also releases tracks as a solo artist through Soundcloud. This is his latest offering in that guise.

Mind’s Eye DubNature’s Dub
Starting any podcast with Mind’s Eye Dub is always a good idea. I don’t see why it should be any different for the 10th anniversary edition.

Kapitlu TlettaxNissokta b’Risposta
This is the very first time that my name has been mentioned during a song. It obviously had to be a Maltese hip-hop track. Thanks guys, I am truly honoured and humbled. Your timing is impeccable…and so I’m able to include your latest release on this rather special edition of the MMI podcast.

Andre CamilleriHell-bound Train
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a song from Andre Camilleri that I didn’t like. Naturally, this is no exception. I’m actually mighty glad he’s still churning them out. To my mind, he’s a little bit like the next generation’s Freddie Portelli in that way.

12th OdeForgotten Warriors
Taken from their debut album The Awakening, which was released on the 16th of October 2015, this track provides a glimpse of a rather significant band on the Maltese metal scene. Made up of musicians who have mostly been active on the local rock scene since the 1980s, 12th Ode is a living bloodline to the legacy from which rock bands developed in Malta over the past several decades.
