Show notes for the 424th Mużika Mod Ieħor podcast featuring music by performers from or in Malta:

Fr Rob GaleaGet Up Again
Songs by Fr Rob Galea have been featured on this podcast for many years. It therefore stands to reason that when he his the big time in Australia – through his stellar X-Factor appearance – we once again play his latest song. It’s sad to see that striking a balance between his pastoral duties and his use of song to spread the word was had to hold. To me, someone somewhere is not seeing the bigger picture.

Kiyomi Vella – Eternal Dream
Staying down under, I was recently very pleasantly surprised to discover the Maltese-Australian singer whose mother is Japanese. Her work came to my attention through a comparison that Marlene Galea (formerly of SBS and now known as Marlene Scicluna) made with the recent fashion film release by QUE Design Studio featuring Maltese singer Ecca Muscat.

Cryptic Street – 103 (Strager EP)
Going from strength to strength, Malta’s foremost all-girl rock band has released an EP entitled Stranger, featuring one of my favourite Maltese-language tracks of all time – i.e. Kull Lejla, which I urge you to vote as my top pick in the online release category on the MMI 2014 Listener’s Top Picks poll. They’ve released 103 as a radio single to promote the EP but I must say that I’m a little surprised that they haven’t also release a promotional video to go along with it. If/when they do, you can be sure I’ll add it here.

Sempliċiment Tat-TriqĦadd Mhu Illegali
Malta’s hip hip enfants terribles never shy away from difficult subject matter. This release is no exception and features a tri-lingual commentary on one of the hottest current affairs topics of recent times: refugees and immigrants crossing the Mediterranean in Europe. They gladly spit all their bile against xenophobic types who dare say they’re not racists. Don’t expect to hear this on your favourite radio station any time soon.
