Skyfall

Show notes for the 319th Mużika Mod Ieħor podcast featuring music by performers from or in Malta:

Robert G feat. TobyOnly On His Way
Last spring, Robert Galea released this song written by Characters/Rifffs frontman Ray Mercieca. The style is very recognizable as Mercieca’s but somehow Robert G make his song sound mellower than it would sound performed by the songwriter. Now all that has been turned on its head with this remix by the ubiquitous Toby. I also think that the video is a good representation of the various elements that make up this song.

South Central (feat. Sean Smith) – Jaw Drop
Earlier this year, the Maltese hooded duo from Brighton released an EP entitled Pitfalls and Corridors. They’re now following it up with yet another EP called Hollywood. This is one of the four tracks on this new release, which is due to be released on Dim Mak Records on 13 November 2012. With contributions from Sean Smith and a nod to John Williams’ soundtrack for the Spielberg classic Jaws, this track should be a massive hit on the International electronic dance circuit.

AngelcryptEternal Conquest
This single was released just under a year ago and it was too late for me to include it among the 2011 nominations for MMI Listeners’ Top Picks. I’ve been meaning to include it on the podcast ever since, and I’ve finally managed to get around to it. Naturally, I’m including it on the list of nominations for the 2012 MMI Listeners’ Pick poll.

The High LonesomeI Won’t Hand My Head and Cry
Regular listeners of the MMI podcast should already be familiar with Melbourne-based Maltese singer-songwriter Andre Camilleri. He has now formed a new band with his long time partner Mark Nunis on keyboards, as well as Canberra vocalist Rose Headley and guitarist Nick Ardlie. Together they have record an acoustic album, which will be launched on 9 December 2012.

Victor ChetcutiNature’s Child
The final track on this week’s podcast is also from an overseas-based Maltese singer-songwriter. This time it’s Victor Chetcuti from the UK, who is the first of thirteen acts featured on the new album ROCKNA Live & Unplugged that has just been released through Michael Bugeja weekly radio show. The album is available as a free download through the M3P and a limited edition CD will also be available in the coming days on the Reciprocal Records label with support from Merc Clothing and Radio 101.
